SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Former North Dakota State University cornerback Josh Gatlin was selected in the ninth round by the Sacramento Mountain Lions in the United Football League's draft Monday night. The Mountain Lions are coached by former Minnesota Vikings head coach Dennis Green.
The 2011 UFL Draft featured a total of 52 selections. Some teams had additional picks as a result of trades that took place between teams during the 2010 season.
Gatlin, a 6-foot, 194-pound native of Jacksonville, Fla., led the Bison with five interceptions including one returned for a touchdown and had six pass breakups. He recorded 19 tackles including 10 solos and a tackle for a loss playing in 14 games with one start.
Gatlin was part of the Bison defense that ranked 7th nationally in both
scoring defense (18.21 ppg) and turnover margin (+1.07 avg.).
North Dakota State went 9-5 and reached the NCAA Division FCS quarterfinals before falling to No. 1-ranked Eastern Washington 38-31 in overtime in Cheney, Wash., on Dec. 11. It was a dramatic turnaround for the Bison, who went 3-8 in 2009.
