
Bison Women Run Past Mayville State 111-75

FARGO, N.D.--Katie Birkel scored 18 points to lead a group of six players in double-figures as North Dakota State University defeated Mayville State University 111-75 in a non-conference women's basketball game before 412 fans Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State (2-0) is scheduled to play at Boise State (1-0) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13.
NDSU reached "Century City" (100 points) for the first time since Dec. 7, 2010, defeating Mayville State 102-62.
The Bison gradually pulled away and led 55-34 at halftime after shooting 56.1 percent from the field. NDSU shot 54.7 percent from the field overall, outrebounded smaller Mayville State 54-26 and scored 72 points in the paint.
Mayville State (5-1) stayed close with the three-point shot, hitting 15 of 31 treys to set a new opponent Bison Sports Arena record for three-pointers made and attempted.
Hailey Longtin poured in a game-high 21 points for the Comets on 5 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc, while teammate Sabrina Rude netted 15 points on 5 of 7 accuracy from three-point.
Three different NDSU players recorded career-high scoring efforts with Miki Stephenson dropping in 16, Liz Keena netting 14 and Ali Browning adding 10.
All 11 Bison players who entered the game scored and the bench contributed 55 points. Hannah Linz netted 15 points including 3 of 6 three-pointers, while Marena Whittle scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added six assists.
