Box Score PITTSBURGH - Mike Felt scored 10 of his career-high 24 points in overtime to lead North Dakota State to an 83-80 win over Youngstown State in the Progressive Legends Classic on Monday, Nov. 19, at the Palumbo Center.
Felt's sixth 3-pointer of the game gave NDSU (3-1) a five-point lead with 44.5 seconds left, and his two free throws with 3.0 seconds left made it a six-point game before Kendrick Perry's 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Perry had 12 points in the overtime period and finished with a career-high 34 for Youngstown State (3-1). He scored the Penguins' last 10 points of regulation in a 30-second span, including a 3-pointer with 3.4 seconds that tied it at 64.
North Dakota State closed the first half on a 15-3 run to go ahead 34-27 at halftime, and the Bison built their biggest lead of the night 36-27 on a Marshall Bjorklund bucket to start the second half.
Youngstown State responded with a 9-0 run to tie the game and held two brief leads late in the second half at 49-47 and 51-49.
NDSU made six straight foul shots in the final 30 seconds of regulation before Brett VandenBergh's two misses at the :09.7 mark kept it a three-point game and set up Perry's 24-footer on the run to force overtime.
The Penguins jumped out to a 68-64 less than a minute into overtime, but TrayVonn Wright and Felt connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to regain the lead and the Bison converted 10 of 10 foul shots down the stretch.
Felt was 6-for-10 from the arc and 6 of 6 at the free throw line off the bench. Lawrence Alexander scored 17 points and made four assists, Taylor Braun scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half, and Bjorklund finished with 11 points.
Perry finished 13-for-25 from the field and had eight rebounds for the Penguins, while Kamren Belin notched his first career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Blake Allen added 10 points.
The teams finished even in rebounding at 47-47. NDSU freshman Kory Brown had seven of his team-high eight boards before halftime, Wright finished with seven, and four other Bison players had six apiece.
Wright, Brown, Braun and Chris Kading each blocked two shots for NDSU. Damian Eargle had three blocks for YSU, Belin swatted two shots and Perry one.
North Dakota State will play tournament host Duquesne at 7 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Nov. 20, on the second of the three-day Pittsburgh Subregional round of the Progressive Legends Classic.
