
Buck Leads North Dakota Past North Dakota State 73-63

FARGO, N.D.--Madi Buck scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the University of North Dakota past host North Dakota State University 73-63 in a women's basketball non-conference game played Friday, Nov. 30, before 2,709 fans at the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State (3-4) is scheduled to play at the University of Northern Colorado (1-4) at 2:05 p.m. Central on Sunday, Dec. 2 in Greeley. North Dakota won its first game in five tries this season.
UND raced out to a 13-2 lead with 15:33 left in the first half on a Megan Lauck three-pointer and never looked back.
North Dakota gained its biggest advantage of the game with 27-9 at the 7:24 mark on a Nicole Smart three-pointer. UND led 36-27 at halftime as Buck scored 10 of her game-high 21 in the opening half.
North Dakota State was able to trim the double-digit deficit to six points twice, the last coming at 67-61 with 1:25 left on a Katie Birkel three-pointer.
UND shot 39.6 percent from the field compared to 30.8 percent for the Bison. North Dakota held a 48-34 rebounding advantage, scoring 28 points in the paint and 12 second chance points.
Hannah Linz and Birkel each led North Dakota State with 18 points, while Marena Whittle scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Linz hit 4 of 7 three-pointers.
Buck led a trio of UND players in double-figures with Smart finishing with 12 points and Lauck chipping in 10. North Dakota made 25 of 34 free throws to overcome 22 turnovers.
