Linz Buzzer Beater Lifts Bison Women to 58-56 Win Over IUPUI

FARGO, N.D.--Hannah Linz rebounded in a missed shot at the buzzer to lift North Dakota State to a 58-56 victory over IUPUI in a Summit League women's basketball game played Monday, Feb. 27, before 375 at the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State (8-10 Summit League, 11-19) secured the fourth-seed in The Summit League tournament and will play IUPUI (7-11 Summit League, 12-18) again at noon Sunday, March 4, in a first round game at Sioux Falls Arena. The official pairings will be released Tuesday.
The Bison inbounded the ball with 2.1 seconds left. Dani DeGagne's hook shot from the right baseline glanced off the backboard and into the hands of Linz, who gathered the ball on the left baseline and shot before the buzzer and redlight went on.
" That was pretty ideal on the left side. I told everybody it was a good thing it was on the left side because if it would've been on the right side I would have shanked it off the backboard," said Linz, a 5-foot-11 junior from Watkins, Minn, who finished with 11 points and career-high eight rebounds.
Linz' last-second shot capped off an impressive rally for North Dakota State, which trailed 52-43 with 7:07 left when IUPUI's Kerah Nelson drained a three-pointer. Nelson led the Jaguars with a game-high 20 points.
The Bison outscored IUPUI 15-6 as Janae Burich, Danielle Muri, Kahla Becken, DeGagne and Linz all hit key buckets.
Muri netted a three-pointer that trimmed the deficit to 54-52 with 3:26 remaining. Muri recorded a career-high 16 points and 12 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double.
Becken hit a turnaround jumper from 8-feet to tie the game at 54-all with 1:34 left, but the Jaguars answered back to go ahead 56-54 with 1:06 remaining on Nevena Markovic's jumper with the shot clock winding down.
DeGagne found a cutting Linz down the left base, who hit a layup with 42 seconds left to knot the game at 56-56.
Muri rebounded an IUPUI miss with 24 seconds remaining. Markovic blocked a Linz jumper out of bounds with 2.1 seconds left to set up the final play.
North Dakota State trailed 33-26 at halftime. This was the first Bison win when trailing at the half since Feb. 8, 2010, home win against UMKC -- a span of 33 games.
NDSU shot 40.3 percent from the field, while IUPUI made 38.3 percent. The Bison held a 44-34 rebounding edge to offset 21 turnovers.
Burich finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. The 6-foot-5 junior tied North Dakota State's single-season blocked shots record of 85 set by Lisa Stamp during the 1986-87 season.
