Bison Soccer Falls to UND, 4-2

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The North Dakota State women's soccer team (3-4) dropped a tough match to rival North Dakota (1-6) Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 11, in Grand Forks, 4-2. 

UND struck first with a goal in the 11th minute to take the early 1-0 lead. Neither team would score the remaining 34 minutes of the first half, leading to the halftime advantage for the home team. 

The second half featured a total of five goals scored between both teams. UND scored a goal in the 49th minute to extend its lead to 2-0 before the Bison were able to cut the North Dakota advantage to 2-1 after a header goal from Katie Tallas off an Olivia Norman pass in the 62nd minute. UND had a response though, netting a pair of goals three minutes apart to extend its lead to 4-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining in the second half. The Bison scored a goal to cut the UND lead to 4-2 in the 89th minute after Meghan Johnston's kick from just outside the box found the back of the net; but, time ran out on the Bison's comeback attempt, leading to the 4-2 setback. 

NDSU was edged in shots by UND, 21-19, and 7-6 in corner kicks. 

Tallas' goal marked her second of the season while Johnston's was her first.

The Bison return to action Friday, Sept. 8, when they host Bolse State at Dacotah Field beginning at 5 p.m.
