DENVER – The North Dakota State women's soccer team (8-8-2) mounted a late second half comeback attempt, but came up just short, falling to the top-seeded South Dakota State Jackrabbits (10-7-1) in the opening round of The Summit League Women's Soccer Championship at Denver's CIBER Field on Thursday, Nov. 6.
With the loss, the Bison end the season with an overall record of 8-8-2.
Trailing 2-0 going into the final 10 minutes of the match, NDSU's Anisha Kinnarath blasted a shot from 20 yards out into the back of the net in the 80th minute, cutting the Jackrabbit advantage in half. It was Kinnarath's third goal of the season.
North Dakota State nearly found an equalizer in the 81st minute, but Genna Joyce's shot was saved by South Dakota State goalkeeper Nicole Inskeep, keeping the Jackrabbits in front, 2-1. NDSU threatened to level the match twice in the final six minutes, however Brittany Mueller's shot was blocked by the SDSU defense and Amy Yang's strike went just wide of the goal to secure the win for the Jacks.
For the match, the Bison were outshot by South Dakota State, 14-9, and were held to just one corner kick, compared to five for the Jacks.
NDSU goalkeeper Sierra Bonham went the full 90 minute between the pipes, making three saves, but took the loss to end the season at 8-8-2 overall. Inskeep earned the win for SDSU to improve to 5-3-0 on the season.
Tori Poole scored both goals for the Jackrabbits, with one occurring in the first minute and the other in the 59th minute of the match.
