WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Army Black Knights pounded out 19 hits as North Dakota State lost to Army 19-9 in college baseball Tuesday, March 18, at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla, at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
Eight players had hits for Army (11-5), with six of them earning multi-hit performances. Patrick Mescher went 5-for-5 with three doubles and three runs scored, while Jacob Page had three hits with five RBIs to lead the Black Knights at the plate.
NDSU (6-8) had nine different players record hits. Senior
Tim Colwell led off the first with a triple and senior
Wes Satzinger hit a double in the four-run third that made it a 4-4 game.
Sophomore
Andy Wicklund hit a two-run double in the sixth that cut the Army lead to 13-8, but the Black Knights responded by scoring five in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Bison freshman
Kevin Folman picked up the loss after he pitched 3 1/3 innings.
Army reliever Carson Meadows improved to 2-0 by coming into the game in the third inning and throwing 3 1/3 innings. He came in for starter Brian Hapeman, who lasted 2 1/3 innings. Patrick Gardner gave up one hit in the seventh and eighth innings, with the game being called due to the tournament mercy rule.
The Bison continue the RussMat Central Florida Invitational with a matchup against Harvard at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Chain of Lakes Park.
