Bison Scrimage to Close Out Second Week of Fall Camp

FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State football team closed out its second week of fall camp with a 70-play scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 16, at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
The NDSU offense scored three times through the air highlighted by a 50-yard catch by tight end Luke Albers, who caught a short pass from Derek McGinnis before slipping a pair of tacklers down the left sideline.
Carson Wentz went 6-for-10 passing for 31 yards and two touchdowns. He completed a 10-yard TD pass to a leaping Carey Woods in traffic and a 6-yard strike to Demitrius Gray in the back of the end zone.
Albers added a 20-yard reception, DeSean Warren and Nate Jenson each had 22-yard catches, and RJ Urzendowski caught two balls totaling eight yards. Nine different players caught passes altogether.
The Bison tested their depth at running back with Nebraska transfer King Frazier getting nine carries for 26 yards and freshmen Anthony Ware and Lance Dunn each getting six carries for 21 and 16 yards, respectively.
Linebacker Kurt Mattox led the defense with seven stops including one sack and another tackle for loss. Linebacker MJ Stumpf was in on three tackles, defensive end Greg Menard had two sacks, tackle Nate Tanguay made an impressive one-armed stop in the backfield, and cornerback Zach Colvin broke up two passes.
The NDSU defense made a few hard-hitting plays. Linebacker Bo Liekhus de-cleated tight end Connor Wentz on a nine-yard reception across the middle short of the first down marker and free safety Andrew Smith stopped Warren in his tracks after the 22-yard pass from McGinnis.
Ben LeCompte punted four times averaging 44.5 yards including a long of 53 yards, Adam Keller was 2-for-2 on PAT kicks and drilled a 38-yard field goal, and Tom Barneson handled eight kickoffs averaging 61.6 yards per kick.
North Dakota State is scheduled to hold eight practices next week before fall classes start, including two-a-days Monday and Wednesday and a scrimmage next Saturday.
