Women's Team Scoring

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State sophomore Erin Teschuk won the individual title at the season-opening Bison Open cross country meet for the second consecutive year, leading a strong effort by the NDSU women in the first competition of 2014.

Teschuk covered the five-kilometer course in 18:09.75, winning by nearly five seconds over runner-up Amber Eichkorn of South Dakota. Teschuk, a Winnipeg, Manitoba, native, won the 2013 Bison Open in her first collegiate cross country race.

Senior Abbi Aspengren was NDSU's No. 2 finisher, placing fifth overall at 19:15.76. Sophomore Tarin Lachowitzer was third across the finish line for the Bison, taking 14th place in 19:56.33.

Sophomore Taylor Janssen (17th overall) and junior Paige Stratioti (22nd overall) rounded out the NDSU scoring in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

The meet was scored to reflect true dual scores between the five schools competing – NDSU, South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota and Fort Wayne – using the top five finishers from each team. NDSU went 2-2 with wins over South Dakota State and Fort Wayne and losses to North Dakota and South Dakota. South Dakota posted a 4-0 mark.

The next scheduled competition for the Bison will be the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on Sept. 27.
