OGDEN, Utah – Middle linebacker
Carlton Littlejohn made 12 tackles and scored the go-ahead touchdown to lead North Dakota State to a 24-7 win over Weber State on Saturday, Sept. 6.
Littlejohn scored on a 3-yard fumble recovery after right end
Kyle Emanuel got one of his career-high three sacks to force the ball loose midway through the second quarter.
Littlejohn also snuffed out a fake field goal try early in the fourth quarter. His tackle at the NDSU 2 prevented a score that would have cut the NDSU lead to one possession.
NDSU (2-0) chewed up 8 minutes, 2 seconds with a 13-play drive in the fourth quarter that resulted in a 38-yard
Adam Keller field goal to make it 24-7.
Running back
John Crockett rushed 26 times for 123 yards including a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter to make it 7-0. It was Crockett's 11th career 100-yard game and he passed Kevin Feeney,
Tyler Roehl and Pat Paschall for 10th in NDSU rushing history.
Quarterback
Carson Wentz went 13 of 22 passing for 192 yards with his first two career interceptions. Tight end
Kevin Vaadeland made three catches for 29 yards to lead nine receivers who caught passes.
Darius Anderson hauled in a 21-yard pass to set up
King Frazier's 1-yard TD run in the third quarter, and
Zach Vraa made one catch for 27 yards to pass Len Kretchman for fifth in NDSU career receiving yards.
Cornerback
CJ Smith and linebacker
Travis Beck each made nine tackles for NDSU,
Esley Thorton made seven stops, and Emanuel finished with six total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
NDSU outgained Weber State 369-304 in total yards and had an edge in time of possession, 32:52 to 27:08.
Quarterback Billy Green was 26-for-43 for 240 yards with Shaydon Kehano making nine catches for 88 yards for the Wildcats (0-2). Luke King had 17 tackles to lead the Weber State defense.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host Incarnate Word at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome. The Cardinals, first-year members of the Southland Conference, are 0-2 after losing 38-3 at Stephen F. Austin.
