Renner, Bison Distance Crew Shine at Jack Johnson Classic

MINNEAPOLIS – The North Dakota State men's track & field team was led by Alex Renner's school record in the shot put and several strong personal-best performances from its distance runners on Saturday at the Jack Johnson Classic. The meet was held at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
Renner, a sophomore from Watertown, S.D., tacked three inches onto his own school record in the shot put, throwing 58-00.50 (17.69m). Renner placed third in the meet and now stands among the top 60 performers in the nation in the shot put.
Senior Brett Kelly clocked 8:29.57 for fourth place in the 3,000m, and junior Brendan Skime was close behind with a personal-best time of 8:31.93 for sixth place. Senior Grady Anderson got the Bison started early in the day in the 'B' section of the 3,000m with a lifetime-best performance of his own at 8:47.60.
Senior hurdler Parker McKittrick ran 8.32 seconds in the prelims and finals of the 60m hurdles for sixth place, while Colin Paarmann ran a PR of 8.36 in the prelims to finish 10th.
Jerome Begin clocked 50.15 for fifth place in the 400m dash. Sophomore Wesley DeLong finished eighth in 50.40.
Bison junior Brandt Berghuis took sixth and sophomore Conrad Schwarzkopf claimed seventh in the weight throw, posting marks of 60-06.75 (18.46m) for Berghuis and 59-05.50 (18.12m) for Schwarzkopf.
Jonah Warwick took sixth in the 800m with a time of 1:56.26. In the 600m, junior Dalton Herding finished seventh, crossing the line in 1:22.13
NDSU junior Brock Larson cleared 15-01.75 (4.62m) to take ninth place in the pole vault. Freshman Matt Moberg placed 10th in the triple jump at 42-08.00 (13.00m).
Sophomore Matt Jennings recorded a personal-best time of 4:22.13 in the mile for 11th.
The Bison will host the Thundering Herd Classic on Feb. 6-7 at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility.
