IUPUI Catches Fire, Defeats NDSU Volleyball 3-1 in Summit League Match

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Host IUPUI caught fire in set three and rode the momentum to defeat North Dakota State University 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 25-15, 25-19) in a Summit League match played Saturday, Oct. 10, before 380 spectators in The Jungle.
NDSU (12-8, 3-4 Summit League) is scheduled to travel play at the University of North Dakota (15-7, 4-2 Big Sky) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Grand Forks.
IUPUI (14-6, 5-1 SL) hit .333 in the pivotal third set behind Kaitlyn Hickey's five kills, four from Kori Waelbroeck and three from Logan Walling to build an early lead and get the set win. The Jaguars rode the momentum into the fourth set and broke free from 11 ties to take the match.
After dropping the first set, North Dakota State came out motivated in the second and outhit IUPUI .391 to .100, and recorded three team blocks to rule the net. Emily Miron had four kills in five attacks, while Jessica Jorgensen and Hadley Steffen each connected for three. Emily Minnick recorded three blocks.
Miron led the Bison with a season-high 14 kills, hit .345 overall and added a pair of blocks. Minnick finished with four blocks, while Brianna Rasmusson filled out the box score with 21 assists, 14 digs and seven kills. Monica Claxton added 19 assists, 10 digs and three service aces. Mikaela Purnell top NDSU with 18 digs.
Waelbroeck connected for a match-high 17 kills and hit .350, while Kelly Wachtel had 11 kills and hit .391 and Hickey added 10. Logan Walling had four blocks, Alexis Mapes 27 assists, and Courtney Halter and Hickey both finished with 16 digs.
