Balanced Attack Leads North Dakota State to 3-0 Win Over South Dakota State

FARGO, N.D. —Emily Miron and Emily Minnick combined for 22 kills to lead a balanced offense as North Dakota State University defeated South Dakota State University 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-18) in a Summit League match played Tuesday, Oct. 20, before 647 spectators at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
NDSU (14-9, 5-4 Summit League) is scheduled to travel to Omaha (10-11, 5-3 SL) for a 4 p.m. match Friday, Oct. 23. Omaha defeated Western Illinois 3-1 in Macomb on Tuesday. The Bison play at Western Illinois (3-20, 1-7 SL) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. The match will be broadcast on ESPN3/WatchESPN.
Miron and Minnick combined for 12 kills and four blocks to lead the Bison to the snug first set win. SDSU led 23-22 before NDSU reeled off the last three points on kills from Miron, Minnick and Jenni Fassbender.
The first set was tied nine times and the lead changed hands on four occasions as South Dakota State's Ashley Beaner connected for five of her match-high 13 kills to keep things close.
NDSU rolled into the second set behind a strong middle presence as Jessica Jorgensen joined Miron and Minnick. The trio combined efforts to produce 24 of the 37 Bison kills through the first two sets.
It was a balanced offense directed by Brianna Rasmusson and Monica Claxton. Rasmusson filled the box score with 24 assists, 13 digs, six kills, two blocks and an ace. Rasmusson recorded her team best eighth 'double-double' of the season. Claxton produced 16 assists and nine digs including several that led directly to points.
Miron and Minnick each finished with 11 kills, while Hadley Steffen and Fassbender hammered eight, and Jorgensen added six. NDSU outhit the Jackrabbits .252 to .179. Miron had three blocks and Minnick added a pair. Mikaela Purnell contributed 16 digs and a pair of aces, while Fassbender finished with 10 digs.
Mattison Munger had 26 assists for SDSU (3-21, 2-6 SL), which had won its last two after snapping a 16-match losing streak. Lizzie Palmer came up with 16 digs and two service aces, while Ellie Benson added 10 digs.
