NDSU Men’s Basketball Handles Texas-Rio Grande Valley, 68-50

LOGAN, Utah – The North Dakota State men's basketball team used a 28-6 run that stretched from late in the first half into the second half to pull away for a 68-50 victory over Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday evening at the Global Sports Hoops Showcase. The Bison improved to 9-3 overall this season.
NDSU junior forward Dexter Werner and sophomore guard Paul Miller both scored 16 points, and sophomore A.J. Jacobson added 15 for the Bison. Werner shot 7-for-9 from the field to score his 16 points in 22 minutes of action. Miller led NDSU with nine rebounds, coming up one shy of matching his career high.
NDSU freshman point guard Khy Kabellis made his first career start and finished with six assists and zero turnovers, as well as five points and five boards.
The Bison limited UTRGV to 35 percent shooting. NDSU committed only seven turnovers for the game and earned a 39-34 rebounding advantage.
UTRGV (3-9 overall) led 28-23 with three minutes left before halftime. NDSU scored the final nine points of the half with buckets from Brian Ishola, Miller and Werner, followed by a trey from Miller to cap the run.
The Bison also scored the first six points of the second half to take a 38-28 lead and make it a 15-0 run.
NDSU will play host Utah State at 9 p.m. CT/8 p.m. MT on Wednesday night in the final game of the Global Sports Hoops Showcase.
