About Arkansas State: The Red Wolves are 2-5 this season with a 2-0 record at home and an 0-5 mark on the road. Arkansas State has lost three games in a row – at Oregon, at Baylor, and at Missouri – leading into Friday's contest with NDSU.
The Red Wolves were picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll. Junior forward Anthony Livingston was selected for the preseason all-conference team. Arkansas State went 11-18 overall and 6-14 in the Sun Belt last season.
Junior guard Devin Carter leads ASU with 16.7 points per game this season while shooting 47 percent from three-point range. Livingston is averaging 13.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest. As a team, the Red Wolves rank 27th nationally with 36 blocks already this season.
The Series vs. Arkansas State: NDSU and Arkansas State have never met in basketball.
About Southern Miss: The Golden Eagles are 0-5 to start the season, with a home game vs. Alabama on Dec. 4 before NDSU comes to town.
Southern Miss was picked to finish 14th out of 14 teams in the Conference USA preseason poll. The Golden Eagles finished 9-20 last season with a 4-14 record in C-USA play.
Khari Price leads USM in scoring with 9.4 points per game this season. Eddie Davis III is averaging 6.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game to lead Southern Miss in rebounding. As a team, Southern Miss is shooting 35.6 percent to rank 345th in Division I.
The Series vs. Southern Miss: Sunday's game will be the third meeting between the Bison and Golden Eagles. Southern Miss has won both previous games – a 70-69 triumph in Fargo on Nov. 18, 2013, and a 78-65 victory in Hattiesburg on Dec. 3, 2014.
Last Year: Lawrence Alexander poured in 23 points and tied the NDSU single-game record with seven three-pointers, but NDSU dropped a 78-65 decision at Southern Miss on Dec. 3 of last season.
Carlin Dupree scored a career-high 16 points in the game, with 14 coming in the second half.
Scorer: Sophomore guard
Paul Miller ranks second in The Summit League and 57th in all of Division I with 19.2 points per game this season. With 115 total points through six contests this season, Miller has already matched 54 percent of his total scoring output (214 points) as a freshman.
Wisconsin Connection: Since senior guard
Kory Brown went out of the lineup with an injury on Nov. 28, NDSU has started four Wisconsin natives --

Chris Kading (De Pere).
Double-Doubles: Miller recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds at No. 5-ranked Iowa State on Dec. 1. He became the third Bison with a double-double this season, as senior
Kory Brown and junior
Dexter Werner both posted double-doubles in the season opener at UC Davis on Nov. 13.
Take Care: The Bison rank 12th in the nation for fewest turnovers per game with 9.7 this season. NDSU also ranks 12th in the country for fewest fouls committed per game.
Kading Honored: Senior forward
Chris Kading has been named among the nominees for the Allstate NABC Good Works Team, an annual national award that honors student-athletes for their campus involvement and community service.
Defensive Force: 6-foot-6 forward
Dexter Werner has at least one block in every game this season, including six over the past three games.
Turnover Advantage: The Bison have had a significant advantage in the turnover department this season. NDSU is averaging just 9.7 turnovers per game while creating 14.7 for its opponents – a plus-5.0 turnover margin.
In Overtime: The Bison have won their last five overtime games, dating back to the start of the 2013-14 season.
Up at Half: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Bison are 42-1 when leading at halftime. NDSU led Illinois 39-28 at the half on Nov. 15 of this season before falling 80-74.
Home Court: With 28 straight home wins, the Bison own the fifth-longest active home court winning streak in the nation. NDSU is 41-2 at home since the start of the 2012-13 season, with the only two losses being to Southern Miss (70-69) on Nov. 18, 2013, and Western Illinois (49-36) on Feb. 14, 2013.
High Level: NDSU is one of only nine mid-major programs in the country to post at least 23 victories in each of the last three seasons. Wichita State, Gonzaga, VCU, Stephen F. Austin, BYU, Louisiana Tech, Stony Brook and New Mexico State are the other eight.
Good Company: NDSU head coach
David Richman is among the most successful coaches in the country who are under 40 years old. His .692 win percentage ranks fourth behind only Shaka Smart (Texas, .741), Mike White (Florida, .720) and Josh Pastner (Memphis, .718).
Three-Point Increase: NDSU is attempting an average of 22.7 three-pointers per game this season -- an increase of more than four per contest over last year (18.2 per game).
