Bison Welcome Denver to BBF for Regular Season Finale and Senior Night Thursday
The North Dakota State women's basketball team (10-17, 6-9 Summit League) will welcome the Denver Pioneers (8-20, 5-9 Summit League) to the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. for the final game of the regular season and Senior Night. At the conclusion of the contest, NDSU seniors Alisa Brown, Liz Keena and Brooke LeMar will be recognized.
The Series Against Denver
Thursday's regular season finale in Fargo will mark the 10th meeting all-time between the Bison and the Pioneers on the hardwood in women's basketball. NDSU has a 6-3 edge in the series, but lost the first meeting with the Pioneers in Denver, Colo., earlier this season Jan. 11, 75-73.
Summit League Tournament Seeding on the Line Thursday
Thursday's game will have a significant impact on Summit League tournament seeding for the Bison. If NDSU wins, it will secure the No. 6 seed in the tournament and face the No. 3 seed in the opening round on March 7. If North Dakota State loses, it will be either the No. 6 or No. 7 seed, depending on the outcome of Denver's game at Omaha on Feb. 28.
About the Pioneers
Denver is 8-20 overall and 5-9 in Summit League play after falling at Western Illinois on Feb. 21, 75-56. The Pioneers have dropped their past three games dating back to their last win on Feb. 11 — a 77-72 triumph at home against South Dakota State.
Through 28 games, Denver is paced by two players scoring in double figures. Last Time Out: Second-Half Comeback Lifts Bison Women to 72-66 win at Fort Wayne Saturday
The North Dakota State women's basketball team (10-17, 6-9 Summit League) rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to defeat the Fort Wayne Mastodons (9-18, 3-11 Summit League), 72-66, on Saturday, Feb. 21, inside the Gates Sports Center. The victory snapped a seven-game losing skid for the Bison and was the first win in Fort Wayne for NDSU since the 2011-12 season.
Brooke LeMar led the Bison with a game-high 23 points and eight assists, while Holly Johnson netted 17 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Taylor Thunstedt also reached double figures for the Bison, scoring 12 points to go along with a game-high three steals.
NDSU shot 55 percent (16-for-29) in the second half, including a 56 percent (5-of-9) performance from three-point range, and ended the game at 44 percent overall from the field, making 24-of-54 shots. The Bison went 6-for-19 (32 percent) from beyond-the-arc and 18-for-23 (78 percent) at the free-throw line and finished the game with a 42-29 advantage in rebounding.
Fort Wayne was paced by Seibert, who netted 16 points on 4-for-14 shooting.

The North Dakota State women's basketball team (7-9, 3-1 Summit League) dropped its first Summit League contest of the 2014-15 season Sunday, Jan. 11, at Denver (6-12, 3-1 Summit League) inside Magness Arena, 75-73.
Holly Johnson paced the Bison with a double-double, scoring 22 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds, while Brooke LeMar netted 15 points and dished out a game-high six assists.
North Dakota State went 28-for-68 (41 percent) from the field, 8-for-23 (35 percent) from three-point range and 9-of-13 (69 percent) from the free-throw line in the contest. The Bison outrebounded Denver, 47-37, but committed 14 turnovers compared to 10 for the Pioneers.
Denver was led by Jordan Johnston with 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting, including a game-high 4-for-5 performance from beyond-the-arc, while Alecia Espinoza and Jesse Spittel snagged seven rebounds each to pace the Pioneers on the boards.
The Pioneers went 25-for-62 (40 percent) from the field, 9-for-23 (39 percent) from three-point range and 16-of-22 (73 percent) from the foul line in the game. Denver shot a blistering 54 percent from long range in the second half, making seven of 13 attempts.

Head Coach Maren Walseth
Maren Walseth was named the 10th head women's basketball coach in NDSU history Monday, April 14, 2014.
Walseth joined the Bison after spending seven years as an assistant coach at Big Ten power Penn State University in State College, Pa., where she helped the Lady Lions to three Big Ten championships, four NCAA tournament appearances and two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances.
Prior to becoming an assistant at Penn State, Walseth spent three years as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
A native of Bloomington, Minn., Walseth was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree as a forward at Penn State from 1997-2002. She was also a key member of the 2000 Lady Lion team that advanced to the Final Four and claimed the Big Ten conference championship. Walseth also was a member of the 1998 WNIT championship team. She graduated from Penn State in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in communications.
Walseth was drafted by the Sacramento Monarchs in the third-round of the 2001 WNBA draft and spent four years playing professionally. She played for the Washington Mystics of the WNBA in 2002 before spending two years playing professionally in France. Walseth also spent a season with the Women's National Basketball League's (NWBL) Colorado Chill.
Walseth's sister, Annika, played for NDSU during the 2007-08 season.
Summit League Food Fight Challenge Women's Basketball Game Slated for Feb. 26
Designated Summit League basketball games have been selected with each school having one week to collect food and/or cash donations for the Summit League Food Fight Challenge. At the end of the Food Fight schedule, the school that raises the most amount of food (measured in pounds) or cash donations will be declared the winner.
The Food Fight Challenge scheduled for NDSU will be February 21st at the men's basketball game leading up to when the women host Denver on Thursday, February 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the BBF.
NDSU's donations will be delivered to the Alba Bales House on the campus of NDSU, helping our own students.
Summit League T-shirts will be passed out at the February 21st and February 26th NDSU basketball games for those who donate!
Drop boxes will be at the Scheels Arena and the BBF beginning February 16th through February 26nd. Our donations will be delivered to the Alba Bales House on the campus of NDSU.

Walseth joined the Bison after spending seven years as an assistant coach at Big Ten power Penn State University in State College, Pa., where she helped the Lady Lions to three Big Ten championships, four NCAA tournament appearances and two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances.
Prior to becoming an assistant at Penn State, Walseth spent three years as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
A native of Bloomington, Minn., Walseth was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree as a forward at Penn State from 1997-2002. She was also a key member of the 2000 Lady Lion team that advanced to the Final Four and claimed the Big Ten conference championship. Walseth also was a member of the 1998 WNIT championship team. She graduated from Penn State in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in communications.
Walseth was drafted by the Sacramento Monarchs in the third-round of the 2001 WNBA draft and spent four years playing professionally. She played for the Washington Mystics of the WNBA in 2002 before spending two years playing professionally in France. Walseth also spent a season with the Women's National Basketball League's (NWBL) Colorado Chill.
Walseth's sister, Annika, played for NDSU during the 2007-08 season.
Summit League Food Fight Challenge Women's Basketball Game Slated for Feb. 26
Designated Summit League basketball games have been selected with each school having one week to collect food and/or cash donations for the Summit League Food Fight Challenge. At the end of the Food Fight schedule, the school that raises the most amount of food (measured in pounds) or cash donations will be declared the winner.
The Food Fight Challenge scheduled for NDSU will be February 21st at the men's basketball game leading up to when the women host Denver on Thursday, February 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the BBF.
NDSU's donations will be delivered to the Alba Bales House on the campus of NDSU, helping our own students.
Summit League T-shirts will be passed out at the February 21st and February 26th NDSU basketball games for those who donate!
Drop boxes will be at the Scheels Arena and the BBF beginning February 16th through February 26nd. Our donations will be delivered to the Alba Bales House on the campus of NDSU.
On the Horizon
The Bison will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., for The Summit League Women's Basketball Championship. Opening round play begins March 7 at the new Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
