Jacobson Powers NDSU to Quarterfinal Win over Denver, 61-50

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Redshirt freshman A.J. Jacobson scored a season-high 23 points to help the No. 2-seeded North Dakota State men's basketball team to a 61-50 quarterfinal victory over No. 7 seed Denver in the Summit League Tournament on Saturday night.
NDSU (21-9) will play the winner of No. 3 seed Oral Roberts and No. 6 seed IUPUI in the semifinals on Monday, March 9, at 8:30 p.m.
Jacobson, a Fargo native, made 7-of-10 shots and 8-of-12 free throws for his 23 points. Senior Lawrence Alexander added 12 points and led the Bison with seven rebounds.
The two teams shot a combined 2-of-26 from three-point range. Denver was 1-of-15 from beyond the arc, while NDSU made 1-of-11 attempts.
Denver's Brett Olson scored 24 points. The Pioneers finish the season with a record of 12-18.
NDSU trailed 29-23 with 19 minutes remaining, but the Bison rattled off a 13-0 run that put them up 36-29 with 13 minutes left. Denver fought back within four at 42-38 with 10 minutes to play, but NDSU answered again with a 6-0 run.
The Bison outscored the Pioneers 38-23 in the second half. NDSU shot a season-high 40 free throws in the contest but made just 24.
Saturday's attendance at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center was a new Summit League Championship record of 9,773.
