FARGO, N.D. – Brayden Resch hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the North Dakota State University baseball team (17-26) to a 5-4 win over the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers (19-26) in front of 704 spectators at Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday, May 5.

The victory was the seventh straight for the Bison, matching the longest winning streak since 2013, and the first over the Golden Gophers since 2012.

With the game tied, 4-4, entering the bottom of the 10th, Ben Petersen led-off the frame with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Taylor Sanders. John Skrbec drew a walk the next at bat, before Resch sent a 1-2 pitch to center field, allowing Petersen to cross home plate to secure the NDSU victory.

Resch and Petersen each tallied three hits to lead the Bison at the plate, while Skrbec hit his team-high 10th double of the season to go along with his first triple of 2015.

Bison right-hander Trevor Jaunich earned the win on the mound after throwing three scoreless innings in relief to improve to 3-2 overall. The Delano, Minn., native surrendered just three hits while striking out four batters with no walks. Jaunich entered the game with runners on first and third in the top of the eighth inning and proceeded to strike out the side, keeping the game tied, 4-4. He also stranded runners at second and third in the top of the 10th to keep the game level.

The Bison raced out to an early 3-0 advantage after plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Petersen drove in the first run of the game on a RBI single down the left field line, before Skrbec made it 2-0, NDSU, on a RBI triple off the left field wall. Resch added the third run of the frame on a RBI single to right field.

The Gophers made it 3-1 with a run in the top of the third, but the Bison answered in the bottom of the fourth, plating a run on a Minnesota fielding error to push their lead to 4-1.

Minnesota knotted the game, 4-4, with three runs in the seventh.

The game remained deadlocked until Resch's game-winning hit in the 10th.

Matt Stemper posted three hits in four at bats to lead the Golden Gophers, while reliever Ty Mcdevitt (1-3) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing the game-winning run.

North Dakota State is scheduled to host South Dakota State in a three-game Summit League series May 8-10 at Newman Outdoor Field. The series opener is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 8.
