DAVIS, Calif. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team (1-3-0) dropped a 2-0 decision at UC Davis (4-1-0) on Friday, Sept. 4, at Aggie Soccer Field.
"I was disappointed in the result today. Our possession didn't create enough chances against a very organized UC Davis team," NDSU head coach Mark Cook said. "We were also punished for mistakes you can't make if you are going to win games against good opponents. We will learn from today and continue to improve."
North Dakota State is scheduled to close out its two-match road trip in California on Sunday, Sept. 6, at Pacific. First kick from Stockton is slated for 7 p.m. PT (9 p.m. CT).
UC Davis took an early 1-0 lead over the Bison after Ana Marija netted a shot from long range in the sixth-minute. Hanna Norman nearly equalized for NDSU in the 26th-minute, but her shot was blocked by the Aggie defense.
The Aggies increased their advantage to 2-0 in the 86th-minute when Rachel Smith scored on a shot from close range.
Lauren Miller led the North Dakota State offensive attack for the match, tallying four shots and one shot on goal.
UC Davis outshot the Bison, 14-8, in the contest, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.
Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham made a match-high four saves, but took the loss between the pipes after allowing two goals to fall to 1-3-0 on the season.
UC Davis goalie Alexis Smith tallied the win in goal to improve to 4-1-0 overall.
