
Larson Leads Bison Decathletes with Career-High Score at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Senior Brock Larson scored a personal-best 6,691 points in the decathlon to lead the group of North Dakota State men's track & field athletes competing at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic on Friday.
Larson (Fargo, N.D) finished as the meet runner-up with his new career-high of 6,691 points. He posted the top marks in the decathlon field in three consecutive events – the discus, pole vault and javelin – to rally on the second day.
After opening with a time of 15.96 in the 110m hurdles, Larson threw a personal-best of 131-7 (40.11m) in the discus. He cleared 15-07.00 (4.75m) in the pole vault before throwing 193-8 (59.03m) in the javelin. He capped the day by running 5:08.15 in the 1500m.
NDSU redshirt freshman Ryan Enerson took third place with 6,481 points, and junior Grant Mjelstad was fourth with 6,374 – his best decathlon score since winning the Summit League title in 2014. Mjelstad had personal-best performances in the hurdles and discus on Friday.
Bison redshirt freshman Matt Moberg scored 5,863 points for eighth place in the first decathlon of his career.
The Bison will conclude competition at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic on Saturday.
