DES MOINES, Iowa – Despite rainy and cold conditions, the North Dakota State men's track & field team was able to come away from the 2016 Drake Relays with a school-record performance on Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Enerson, Colin Paarmann, Parker McKittrick and Jerome Begin clocked 57.75 seconds in the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay to set an NDSU all-time best and earn a runner-up finish in the meet. The quartet broke the previous NDSU record of 58.05, set in 2012 by a team that featured McKittrick and Begin in their true freshman seasons.
Bison sophomore Brant Gilbertson clocked a 3000m steeplechase personal-best of 9:07.28 to take sixth place in the meet. He stands as the eighth-fastest in school history in the event.
The NDSU men took sixth in the 1600m medley relay with Karter Gorney, Landon Jochim, Jacob Richter and Dalton Herding. Their time of 3:26.60 ranks 10th on the NDSU all-time list.
Junior Conrad Schwarzkopf, the Summit League leader in the hammer throw this season, placed seventh in the event on Saturday, throwing 200-7 (61.14m). Sophomore Steffan Stroh took 11th in the hammer at 192-1 (58.55m), and sophomore Matt Bedard clocked 53.36 in the 400m hurdles for 16th place.
The Bison will host the NDSU Tune-Up meet in Fargo on Friday, May 6, as well as competing at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls next weekend.
