FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University women's cross country team will travel to Vermillion, S.D., to compete in the Summit League Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28. The women's six-kilometer race is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bluffs Golf Course.
Â
The Bison women will be attempting to win their fourth Summit League team title in seven seasons. South Dakota won the team championship last year, edging NDSU by only five points.
Â
NDSU returns five of its top seven runners from last year's conference meet, led by junior Emma Kusch Dahle and sophomore Melina Kuerschner. Kusch Dahle, Kuerschner and junior Kayla Huhnerkoch all earned second-team All-Summit League honors one year ago, placing 8th, 10th, and 13th, respectively, in Macomb, Ill.
Â
In addition to returners Annika Rotvold and Ashley Perez, the Bison women hope to receive significant contributions from their freshman class. Kelby Anderson has been NDSU's top finisher in three of the four meets she has competed in this season, and fellow freshmen Peyton Frolek and Jen Dufner have also become regulars in NDSU's top five.
Â
Saturday will be the third 6k race of the season for the Bison women. In each of the previous two, Anderson, Kusch Dahle and Huhnerkoch have finished as NDSU's top three runners.
Â
The NDSU women won three straight Summit League team titles from 2011-13.
