ABILENE, Texas – The Abilene Christian University Wildcats completed a three-game series sweep of the North Dakota State University baseball team with a 5-3 win over the Bison Sunday, Feb. 26, at Crutcher Scott Field.
With the loss, NDSU drops to 4-3 overall while ACU improves to 3-4 on the season.
Redshirt junior outfielder
Logan Busch went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored, and freshman infielder
Tucker Rohde went 3-for-4 in the batter's box and batted in a run to lead the NDSU offense.
Senior right-hander
Reed Pfannenstein (1-1) took the loss on the mound for the Bison after giving up four earned runs on 10 hits with one strikeout and no walks in 4 1/3 innings of work.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to gain an early 3-0 advantage.
NDSU cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the top of the second after Busch hit a one-out triple to right field and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Bennett Hostetler.
The Bison made it a one-run game, 3-2, when
Mason Pierzchalski singled with one out and scored on Busch's RBI double to right center in the top of the fourth inning.
ACU pushed its lead to 4-2 with a run in the fifth, but the Bison inched pulled within 4-3 in the eighth after Rohde drove in Busch with a two-out RBI single to center.
Abilene Christian's Derek Scott led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run, increasing the Wildcat lead back to two runs, 5-3.
Scott finished the game with three hits in four at bats, including a double and homer, and tallied two RBIs to pace ACU at the plate.
ACU starting pitcher Drew Hanson (1-0) earned the win after allowing one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks in two innings pitched.
North Dakota State is scheduled to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers Tuesday, Feb. 28, inside U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
