NDSU Run Ends at NCAA Wrestling Championships

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — North Dakota State University's run at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships ended during Session III on Friday, March 17, before a crowd of 18,186 at the Scottrade Center. The three session total is 54,500.
 
North Dakota State is currently tied for 46th in the team standings with 3 points. Penn State leads the way with 74 points, Iowa and Ohio State are second with 57.5, and Oklahoma State is fourth with 47 points.
 
North Dakota State 125 Josh Rodriguez won his first match, but dropped the second in the consolation bracket, while 133 Cam Sykora and 165 Andrew Fogarty both lost their opening match Friday.
 
In his first match, Rodriguez jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and claimed a 5-2 decision against Travis Piotrowski of Illinois. However, No. 16 seed Nathan Kraisser took control from the start and picked up points late in a 6-0 decision over Rodriguez
 
Rodriguez finished the season with a 25-4 record. He finished his career 103-37 and ranks 9th all-time at North Dakota State. Rodriguez was 7-6 in three NCAA appearances.
 
Despite a third period takedown, NDSU 133-pounder Cam Sykora dropped a 6-4 decision to No. 15-seed Jamal Morris of NC State, Sykora, a redshirt freshman from Wheaton, Minn. (Wheaton H.S.), finished the season at 26-8.
 
North Dakota State 165-pounder Andrew Fogarty lost by tech fall 17-0 at 4:14 to No. 10 Te'Shan Campbell of Pitt. Fogarty, a redshirt freshman from Jordan, Minn. (Scott West H.S.), ends the season with a 23-13 record.
