GREELEY, Colo. – The North Dakota State University baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday, March 4, at Northern Colorado, winning game one, 7-4 in seven innings, before dropping game two, 7-6.

With the split, the Bison are now 6-5 overall, while Northern Colorado is 5-7 on the season.

In NDSU's 7-4 win in the opener, senior outfielder Ben Petersen drove in three runs on his team-high fourth home run of the season, while junior infielder Drew Fearing collected two hits, and redshirt junior outfielder Logan Busch compiled a double and two RBIs.

Redshirt junior left-hander Chris Choles (1-0) earned the win on the mound for the Bison in game one after allowing one earned run on three hits with a strikeout and walk in four innings of relief.

The Bison built a 4-0 lead after Petersen connected for a three-run homer to left center in the top of the third inning.

Northern Colorado cut the NDSU advantage to 4-3 with a trio of runs in the bottom-half of the third, but the Bison responded with three runs in the top of the fifth after Busch hit a two-RBI double and Tucker Rohde batted in a run on an RBI ground out, increasing their lead to 7-3.

Outfielder Jack Pauley and infielder Cole Maltese each homered, leading the Bears in the opener.

UNC starter Troy Watson (1-1) took the loss on the mound after giving up three earned and three unearned runs on four hits in four innings pitched.

In the Bison's game two loss, North Dakota State jumped out to a 6-1 advantage after scoring runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

The Bears responded, though, plating three runs each in the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings to rally and gain a 7-6 lead.

NDSU had a chance to tie the game or take a lead after drawing back-to-back walks to lead-off the eighth inning, but UNC reliever Anthony Brady recorded three straight strikeouts to end the North Dakota State scoring threat.

Redshirt junior Matt Elsenpeter and Rohde each drove in two runs to lead the Bison at the plate in the second contest.

NDSU right-hander Sean Terres (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Pauley tallied three hits in four at bats with three RBIs and two runs scored to pace UNC in game two.

Reliever Dylan Shiraki (1-0) picked up the victory and Brady earned the save for the Bears in the second contest.

North Dakota State and Northern Colorado are slated to wrap up the four-game set with a single game Sunday, March 5, at noon MT (1 p.m. CT) in Greeley.
