FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team has signed one of the country's top high school javelin throwers in Curtis Stradley of Battle Ground, Wash., head coach Don Larson and associate head coach Justin St. Clair announced Thursday.

Stradley ranks third among all American high schoolers in the javelin in 2017, throwing 211-1 in mid-April. He surpassed the 200-foot barrier in three other meets this season, including at the Washington 4A State Championships last week, where he took the state title with a throw of 207-3.

Stradley was also a standout running back and linebacker in football for Battle Ground HS. He did not compete in track & field or throw javelin until his junior year of high school, yet he won district, regional and state titles in the event this year as a senior.

With incoming Bison Benji Phillips of Glasgow, Mont., at No. 5 on the national list this season, NDSU has now signed two of the country's top three seniors in the javelin.

The NDSU men finished the 2017 season ranked third in the NCAA event squad rankings in the javelin, with the top four Bison averaging 227-0 (69.20m). The Bison had a nation-best 10 entries in the men's throwing events at the NCAA Prelims.

The Bison men have won eight consecutive Summit League outdoor team titles.
