No. 19 Minnesota Shuts Out Bison Monday, 3-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 19 ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers claimed a 3-0 shutout victory over the North Dakota State University women's soccer team in front of 1,662 spectators on Monday, Aug. 21, at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul.
With the loss, the Bison drop to 0-2-0 on the season while the Gophers improve to 1-0-1 overall.
Junior Holly Enderle tallied two shots, with one shot on goal, leading NDSU.
North Dakota State sophomore goalkeeper Monica Polgar (0-2-0) suffered the loss between the posts after making a match-high five saves but surrendering three goals.
Minnesota jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the opening 20 minutes of the match. The Gophers' Sydney Squires netted the first goal of the match in the 10th-minute before Minnesota's Emily Heslin doubled the home team's advantage with a strike in the 17th-minute.
The Golden Gophers netted what proved to be the final goal of the match two minutes after halftime when Megan Koenig found the back of the net in the 47th-minute.
For the match, Minnesota outshot NDSU, 17-2, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Gophers also tallied eight corner kicks while holding the Bison to none.
Heslin compiled four shots and two shots on goal, pacing Minnesota, while goalkeeper Kailee Sharp (1-0-1) earned the victory after allowing no goals and tallying one save in 90 minutes.
North Dakota State is scheduled to travel to Ogden, Utah, to take on Weber State on Friday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. MT (8 p.m. CT).
