STOCKTON, Calif. - Pacific scored 31 of its 75 points off turnovers Friday afternoon, as the Tigers beat the North Dakota State women's basketball team 75-68 at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Most of the first quarter was back-and-forth between the two teams. A 3-pointer by
Michelle Gaislerova with 4:17 to play in the opening frame gave the Bison a 15-14 lead. The Tigers answered with an 11-3 run in the next 3:25 until Gaislerova hit a jumper with :08 left in the quarter. The Tigers led 25-20 after the first quarter.
Pacific led 29-26 with 8:05 to play in the first half when the Tigers went on a 13-2 run over a 6:09 span. The 42-28 lead with 1:39 to play in the half was the largest of the game for the Tigers, but the Bison answered with six-straight points to end the half. A pair of free throws by
Cirkeline Rimdal with :15 left gave the Tigers a 42-34 lead at the break.
NDSU continued the run into the second half, scoring the first nine points over a 3:10 span. A jumper by
Emily Dietz on the baseline gave NDSU a 43-42 lead with 6:50 left in the quarter. Pacific answered once again, going on a 15-4 run over a 5:29 span to push the lead back to double digits at 57-47 with 1:05 left in the quarter. An and-one by
Tyrah Spencer to end the quarter cut the lead to 57-50 going to the fourth quarter.
Spencer drilled a trey to start the fourth quarter scoring, while Gaislerova hit a long ball with 8:45 to go to cut the lead to 59-56. Pacific pushed the lead back to nine with 6:58 to play, but NDSU answered again to trim the lead to 65-62 with 4:19 to go. The Bison couldn't get any closer than the three points in the final minutes, leaving the Tigers with the 75-68 victory.
The Bison shot a season-high 53.3 percent (24-of-45), while also shooting a season-best from downtown on 9-of-20 (45%) shooting. Pacific was 28-of-65 (43.1%) from the floor and 5-of-21 (23.8%) from long range. The Bison were 11-of-18 (61.1%) at the free throw line, while Pacific was 14-of-17 (82.4%) from the charity stripe. NDSU had a season-high 22 turnovers, while Pacific had just six miscues. Pacific won the specialty stats with advantages in points in the paint (32-22), points off turnovers (31-9), second chance points (19-6) and bench points (20-8).
Spencer led the Bison with a career-high 19 points. Gaislerova and
Rylee Nudell joined her in double figures with 16 and 13 points respectively. It was the fifth-straight game Gaislerova has scored in double figures. Brooklyn McDavid led the Tigers with a game-high 23 points, the most by an opponent this year against NDSU. Dietz had a career-high nine rebounds, while Nudell added eight boards. Spencer led the Bison with four assists, while
Marina Fernandez added three assists. Fernandez also tied a career-high with a pair of steals.
The Bison return to action on Saturday, Nov. 24, as they face North Texas on the final day of the Tiger Turkey Tipoff in Stockton, Calif.
