Gaislerova's Career Day Not Enough Against Huskies

DEKALB, Ill. - Sophomore Michelle Gaislerova scored a career-high 30 points against Northern Illinois Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Huskies beat the North Dakota State women's basketball team 81-63 at the NIU Convocation Center.

The Bison held an early 9-8 lead with 6:30 to play in the first quarter on seven points from Gaislerova. A jumper by Myia Starks with 6:20 left in the opening frame sparked a 16-3 NIU run over a 4:27 span. The Huskies held a 26-15 lead after the first quarter.

Gaislerova cut the lead to eight with 7:52 to play in the second quarter, but a layup by Ally May started a 7-0 run that pushed the NIU lead to double digits for the remainder of the game. The Huskies led 43-28 at the break.

Northern Illinois pushed the lead to 28 points with 7:30 to play in the game on a layup by May. The Bison held the Huskies to just six points in the final seven minutes of the game while going on a 16-6 run.

The Bison were 26-of-62 (41.9%) from the field and 7-of-17 (41.2%) from 3-point range. Northern Illinois was 31-of-74 (41.9%) from the floor and 11-of-36 (30.6%) from downtown. The Bison were 4-of-8 at the free throw line, while the Huskies were 8-of-12 at the charity stripe. Northern Illinois had the advantage in specialty stats in points off turnovers (22-2), points in the paint (38-26), fast break points (25-4) and bench points (27-7). NDSU had a 47-35 advantage in rebounds, including 14 offensive rebounds.

Gaislerova finished with a game-high 30 points, scoring in double figures for the seventh time this season. Tyrah Spencer joined her in double figures with 11 points, while Rylee Nudell added six points. Courtney Woods led the Huskies with 25 points. Spencer had a game-high 12 rebounds, giving her a career-high on the glass and her first career double-double. Marina Fernandez and Danneka Voegeli each had eight rebounds. Spencer had a game-high four assists, while Nudell and Cirkeline Rimdal each had three assists, a career-high for Rimdal.

NDSU returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 2, as they host UMKC at the Scheels Center inside the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.
