Scene Setter
The North Dakota State women's basketball team is slated to host the Mayville State Comets Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex in the season opener for the Bison. This game will be an exhibition game for the Comets.
Series History
Tuesday's game will be the 26th meeting all-time between the Bison and the Comets. NDSU holds a 25-0 record in the series, including an 87-43 victory last season at the Scheels Center. The series dates back to a 30-27 Bison victory in 1967 during the second season of NDSU women's basketball.
Bison Notes
-The Bison are 32-18 all-time in season openers. NDSU is looking for its third-straight win in an opener, while they have won six of their last seven opening games.
-NDSU returns five players that started at least 13 games last season, including three that started 22 or more games. Sarah Jacobson started all 29 games for the Bison last year.
-The Bison return 74 percent of their scoring from last year, including the top four scorers. Reilly Jacobson led the Bison with 11.6 points per game last year, while Sarah Jacobson averaged 10.1 points per game.
-Of the top 13 returning scorers in The Summit League, NDSU has three of them.

Scouting Mayville State
-The Mayville State Comets are an NAIA school playing in the North Star Athletic Association. The Comets finished 20-9 overall and 10-6 in the NSAA last year. Mayville State finished fourth in the league standings a year ago.
-In the preseason NSAA Coaches Poll, the Comets are picked to finish third overall in the league.
-The Comets will look to replace a majority of their scoring from last year, as they lost three of their top four scorers. Joelle Ertl is the top returning scorer, as she averaged 11.96 points per game last season.
-Through three games this season, Mayville State is averaging 72.3 points per game despite having just one player averaging double digits (Ertl - 12.0).
-Mayville State opened the season with back-to-back wins against Providence University. The Comets won the two games by a combined 85 points. Mayville State put up 168 points on the scoreboard in the two victories.
Last Time Out:
Minnesota Duluth raced out to a 13-0 lead in the first 4:38 on Tuesday night, as the Bulldogs defeated the North Dakota State women's basketball team 70-65 in an exhibition game at the Scheels Center.
The Bison answered with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the lead to 13-8 on a layup by Emily Dietz with 3:01 to play in the first quarter. The lead stood after a quarter, as the Bulldogs led 17-12.
NDSU opened the first 4:59 of the second quarter on a 16-5 run, including scoring nine-straight points to end the run. A jumper in the lane by Michelle Gaislerova with 5:01 left in the half gave the Bison a 28-22 lead, its largest of the game. A layup by Rylee Nudell gave the Bison a 33-32 lead at the break.
With the Bison leading 41-37 with 6:04 to play in the third quarter, Minnesota Duluth went on a 14-6 run to close the quarter. Sarah Grow scored the final six points of the quarter for the Bulldogs, as they took a 51-47 lead into the fourth quarter. The run continued into the fourth quarter, where Minnesota Duluth scored 11 of the first 17 points to take a 62-53 lead on a jumper by Grow with 5:32 to play. The Bison twice cut the lead to one in the final two minutes on a layup by Nudell with 1:53 to play and a trey by Gaislerova with :54 left. Emma Boehm hit a layup with :23 left before Grow closed the game with a pair of free throws with :06 to play.
Gaislerova led the Bison with a game-high 20 points, while Nudell joined her in double figures with 15 points. Emma Boehm led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Gaislerova and Tyrah Spencer led the Bison with four rebounds apiece, while four others each had three boards. Marina Fernandez had a game-high eight assists, while Spencer dropped in three.
The Bison held a 32-24 advantage in the paint. NDSU turned the ball over 23 times, while the Bulldogs had 14 turnovers. Minnesota Duluth finished with 12 steals, while the Bison had four. NDSU was 26-of-45 (57.8%) from the field and 7-of-15 (46.7%) from 3-point range. The Bulldogs were 24-of-60 (40%) from the floor and 7-of-18 (38.9%) from downtown. NDSU as 6-of-13 (46.2%) at the free throw line, while Minnesota Duluth was 15-of-18 (83.3%) at the charity stripe.
Sweet Home Fargo
The Bison will play three home games at the Scheels Center before hitting the road for the first time. In addition to the game with Mayville State on Tuesday, NDSU will host Creighton (Nov. 9) and New Hampshire (Nov. 11). The first road contest for the Bison is Nov. 17 at Wisconsin, which is the start of four-straight games on the road to close the month of November.
2018-19 NDSU Women's Basketball Captains Announced
Rylee Nudell, Tyrah Spencer and Marina Fernandez have been voted team captains for the Bison for the upcoming 2018-19 season. This is the second year that Spencer has been voted a captain.
NDSU Women's Basketball Picked Seventh In Summit League Preseason Poll
The North Dakota State Bison women's basketball team was voted seventh in the Summit League preseason poll released Wednesday by the league office. South Dakota State was tabbed the preseason favorite with 24 first-place votes, and South Dakota was picked second with the remaining nine first-place votes. Western Illinois is third, followed by Oral Roberts, Denver, North Dakota and NDSU. Omaha and Purdue Fort Wayne round out the poll in eighth and ninth, respectively. The Summit League finished 12th out of 32 conferences in RPI last season.

The Bison will have a pair of home games this weekend, as NDSU will host Creighton (Nov. 9) and New Hampshire (Nov. 11).
MidcoSN to Televise Every NDSU Women's Basketball Home Game in 2018-19
MidCo has announced that all 14 NDSU home games during the 2018-19 season will be broadcast live on MidCo Sports Network. All games will either be on MidcoSN or MidcoSN2. In addition, all home games will be covered by ESPN+ or ESPN3. Road games at Omaha (Jan. 6), South Dakota State (Jan. 23), North Dakota (Feb. 7) and South Dakota (Feb. 28) will also be on the Midco Sports Network.
