FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team captured three event titles on the opening day of the 2018 Summit League Indoor Championships, opening up an early lead in the hunt for an 11th consecutive team title.

The Bison lead the team standings with 86 points through the five events completed on Friday. South Dakota stands in second place with 58 points, and South Dakota State is third with 24.

Bison senior
Piper Jensen took first place in the long jump, becoming only the third woman in NDSU history to top 20 feet indoors with her winning leap of 20-00.25 (6.10m).

NDSU senior
Courtney Pasiowitz won the Summit League weight throw title, throwing a meet record 65-10.50 (20.08m) that ranks third in NDSU history. Junior
Kelsey Laufenberg was the runner-up in the weight throw, posting a personal-best mark of 64-01.00 (19.53m) that ranks fifth all-time at NDSU.
Bailey Retzlaff,
Jordyn Thornton and
Hannah Frost finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, for the Bison.

Katie Bostrom and
Kayla Huhnerkoch teamed up to bring home the distance medley relay title for NDSU, running 12:00.62.

Junior
Annika Rotvold took Summit League runner-up honors in the 3000m, clocking a personal-best time of 9:38.24 that ranks fourth all-time at NDSU.

Bison senior
Amanda Levin scored a career-best 3,917 points for a runner-up finish in the pentathlon. She is now ranked third in NDSU history behind only All-Americans Rose Jackson and Whitney Carlson.

The Bison women scored 15 team points in the pentathlon with sophomore
Kennedi Sand fifth (3,420), senior Jaelin Beach seventh (3,262), and sophomore
Macy Denzer eighth (3,177).

NDSU also finished third and fifth behind Jensen in the long jump, with personal-best marks from
Daejha Moss (19-02.50 / 5.85m) and
Bailey DeMar (19-00.00 / 5.79m).

The Bison also positioned themselves to score big in several events on Saturday. The NDSU women took four of the eight finalist spots in the 400m dash, with
Alexis Woods as the top qualifier. Levin, senior

Alyssa Lind all also advanced.

Bostrom (2:12.96),
Peyton Frolek (2:14.84) and Bye (2:15.05) all advanced among the top five to tomorrow's 800m final.

Woods and
Gabby Grommesh both qualified for the 200m dash final for NDSU. Grommesh also clocked 7.70 seconds in the 60m dash to qualify for the finals in one of the fastest 60m preliminary rounds in Summit League history.

Denzer ran a season-best 8.85 seconds to advance to the 60m hurdles final.

Action resumes inside the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility with the men's heptathlon at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Field events start at 11:30 a.m. with the women's triple jump, and running events begin at 1 p.m.
