Jacquelyn Sertic struck out 11 and
Tabby Heinz delivered a two-out three-run double as North Dakota State defeated Colgate 7-1 in the UCR Classic played Saturday, March 10, at Amy S. Harrison Softball Field.

NDSU (10-7) is scheduled to play Columbia (3-6) at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 10. The Lions play Boise State and UC Riverside later today.

Sertic improved to 8-4 with the complete game three-hitter. With her 11 strikeouts, she reach double-figures for the fifth time this season and 23rd time in her career.

North Dakota State jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.
Katie Shoultz was hit by pitch with one out and stole second. Shoultz then swiped third with
Bre Beatty on the move and scored on the throw.

Vanessa Anderson followed with a RBI double to left center. Heinz delivered the big blow, a bases-clearing double to right center with two outs. Beatty and Heinz each had two hits to lead the Bison.

Colgate (1-11) cut the deficit to 5-1 in the top of the third on Mia Guevarra's two-out RBI double.

North Dakota State extended the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Beatty led off with a home run to left, her second of the season. Beatty added a two-out RBI single in the sixth to make it 7-1.

Bella Crow (0-6) and Kyle Griswold pitched for Colgate with Crow picking up the loss. Griswold allowed four hits, walked four and struck out two over the final 5.1 innings.
