FARGO, N.D. – South Dakota scored the final 11 points of the fifth set to outlast North Dakota State 3-2 (20-25, 25-13, 25-17, 15-25, 15-5) in a Summit League match played in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse before 736 spectators that braved the blustery conditions on Friday, Oct. 11.
The Bison (7-10, 2-3 SL) are scheduled to host Denver (10-6, 2-2 SL) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. North Dakota and Denver were postponed Friday.
In the fifth set, NDSU scored three straight to take a 5-4 lead on a
Kelley Johnson ace, and kills by
Emily Halverson and
Syra Tanchin.
However, the league-leading Coyotes finished the set and the match on an 11-0 run, taking advantage of NDSU miscues along with three service aces from Anne Rasmussen, a pair of kills from Elizabeth Juhnke and block by Elizabeth Loschen and Maddie Wiedenfeld. Rasmussen finished with five aces and 20 digs.
Juhnke led South Dakota (17-1, 6-0 SL) with 16 kills, while Sami Slaughter and Wiedenfeld followed with 15 and 10 kills. Madison Jurgens had 47 assists for the Coyotes, who outhit the Bison .242 to .182. Wiedenfeld added a match-high four blocks.
Alexis Bachmeier connected for 13 kills and hit .321 for NDSU, while collecting a match and career-high 22 digs. Tanchin finished with 16 kills, while
Kelley Johnson had 17 assists, 11 digs and a pair of aces.
