Records Fall as NDSU Men Win ODU/OBX Intercollegiate Title

POWELL'S POINT, N.C. - The North Dakota State men's golf team broke three school records on Tuesday, as the Bison picked up the win at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.

NDSU broke school records as a team over 18 holes and 54 holes, while breaking the individual 54 hole record as well. As the fall season wrapped up with the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, the Bison have the top two 18 and 54 hole scores as a team in school history this fall, while also recording three of the top four 54-hole scores in school history by individuals.

The Bison shot a 272 in the final round, breaking the 18-hole record of 274 that was set earlier this season at the Crusader Intercollegiate. The 826 over 54 holes was also a new school record, smashing the previous best of 849 set two weeks ago at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.

Van Holmgren finished second for the Bison, as his 68 in the final round gave him a 202 for the three rounds. His 202 breaks the previous school record for 54 holes of 206, set by Eric Johnson at the Division I Independent Championship on April 29, 2007. It was the seventh career top five finish for Holmgren, who had three birdies in the final round. Holmgren finished with a five-under score on par four holes, the second best score in the field. Andrew Israelson shot a 74 in the final round, as he finished with a 207. The 207 by Israelson is tied for the third-best 54-hole score in school history, as Israelson turned in his sixth career top five finish. Israelson finished the day with four birdies, as he tied for fourth.

Lucas Johnson had his fourth career top 10 finish, as he tied for sixth place with a 208 for the three rounds. Johnson shot a 69 in the final round, while his 208 is tied for the seventh-best 54-hole score in school history. Johnson fired seven birdies in the final round, as his seven-under on par five holes throughout the tournament was the second best score in the field. Nate Deziel shot a season-low 69 in the final round, as he tied for 42nd with a 217. Deziel had three birdies on the back nine. After withdrawing from the second round on Monday, Brock Winter shot a career-low 66 in the final round with six birdies.

NDSU led the field with a two-under par on par four holes and a 22-under par on par five holes. The Bison also had 58 birdies, the second most in the field.

The Bison will open the spring season Feb. 24-25 at The Joust in Jurupa Valley, Calif. at Goose Creek Golf Course.
