NDSU Men Set School Record in Runner-Up Finish in Colorado

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - Putting together three of the best rounds in North Dakota State history, the Bison men's golf team finished second at the Ron Moore Invitational on Sunday.
NDSU shot a 286 in the final round on Sunday, as the Bison shot an 849 over the three rounds. The 54-hole score breaks the previous school record of 851 from two years ago. Denver won the team title with an 846, while Denver's Jackson Solem and Northern Colorado's Jack Castiglia tied for medalist honors with a 204.
For the second time this season, Van Holmgren shot a 207 for 54 holes, tied for the second best 54-hole score in school history. Holmgren shot a 70 in the final round, as he tied for fifth. It was his second top five finish of the season and sixth of his career. Holmgren had three birdies in the final round. Holmgren led the field with a 3.85 (-5) average on par four holes.
With four birdies in the final round, Andrew Israelson finished 10th with a 212. Israelson had a 71 in the final round, recording his 12th career top-10 finish. Brock Winter shot a 72 in the last round, finishing in a tie for 11th with a 213. Winter had four birdies in the final round. Winter averaged 4.11 strokes (-8) on par five scoring, the second best score in the field. Winter's 13 birdies were tied for the fifth most in the tournament.
Nate Deziel shot a 73 for the third-straight round, finishing in a tie for 25th with a 219. Deziel had a pair of birdies in the final round. Lucas Johnson rounded out the Bison lineup with a 73 in the third round, finishing in a tie for 31st with a 222. Johnson had three birdies in the final round. Johnson was six-under (4.33) on par five holes, the fifth best average at the tournament.
Playing as an individual, Jed Baranczyk finished 40th with a 225. With a birdie on the ninth hole, Baranczyk shot a 76 in the final round. Adams shot a career-low 74 in the final round, as he tied for 47th with a 231. Adams added a birdie on the 12th in the final round.
The Bison will close the fall season Oct. 20-22 at the ODU/Kilmarlic Invitational at Powell's Point, N.C.
