NDSU Men's Golf's Ballou Leads Opening Round of Summit League Championship
MESA, Ariz. – North Dakota State men's golfer Andrew Ballou is tied for the lead after the opening round of the 2026 Summit League Championship at Longbow Golf Club on Sunday afternoon. NDSU sits second overall in the team standings.
Ballou (68) fired his lowest round of the season to open the tournament. The freshman started strong, carding just one bogey on the day with 14 pars and a pair of birdies. Ballou recorded the only Bison eagle of the day on the 18th to finish -3 for the round to sit in a tie for the leader position.
Carter White (72) sits just outside the top ten heading into day two. White logged seven pars and a pair of bogeys in the front nine, before turning it around with six more pars and a duo of birdies to finish the round. The freshman is slotted in a tie for 12th at +1 after the opening day.
Rylin Petry (73) and Jake Skarperud (73) round out the scoring rounds for NDSU on day one. Petry tallied a team high of 15 pars in the first round, with a birdie on the final hole. Skarperud was even through 13 holes in his opening round and tallied two birdies on the day. The pair of seniors carded rounds of +2 to finish in a tie for 20th.
Gabe Benson (74) is the final NDSU golfer for the first round. Benson logged three birdies for the round to finish in a tie for 24th at +3.
The Bison (286) shot +2 in the first round to finish day one in second place. NDSU is currently two strokes behind South Dakota (284), who is leading the 9-team pack after carding an even-par opening round.
The Bison will continue play at the 2026 Summit League Championship tomorrow, with the first parings scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m. CT.
