NDSU Beats North Dakota 3-1 in Offensive-Minded Summit League Match

FARGO, N.D. – Syra Tanchin matched her career-high 17 kills, Emily Halverson hit .464 and Abbi Klos reached 1,000 career digs as North Dakota State defeated North Dakota 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15) in an offensive-minded Summit League volleyball match played Tuesday, Nov. 12, before 1,109 spectators in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
 
NDSU takes the season series with UND and clinches a spot in the Summit League tournament next week. The Bison (12-15, 7-8 SL) closes out the regular season against Oral Roberts (3-11, 7-21 SL) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
 
North Dakota (12-17, 4-11 SL) took leads in the first two sets but NDSU rallied behind Halverson and Tanchin, who continued to have the hot hand. Halverson had 13 kills, Alexis Bachmeier put together 11 kills and 11 digs, and Bella Lien had seven kills, seven digs and a career best three service aces.
 
Klos, a senior from La Crosse, Wis., became the 25th player in program to reach 1,000 career digs in the third set. She finished with 11 digs and has 1,003 entering Sunday's match. Kalli Hegerle had 29 assists and match a career-high with five blocks.
 
The Fighting Hawks kept battling behind Ashley Brueggeman, Lexi Ahrens and Lydia Rutten to hit .303 and take the third set. Brueggeman collected a match-high 18 kills, hit .395 and had 13 digs. Ahrens had 12 kills and hit .409, while Rutten claimed 11 kills and hit .474. Peyton Sewell had 41 assists and 14 digs, and Darian Chwialkowski came up with a match-high 16 digs.
 
North Dakota outhit NDSU .239 to .219, but the Bison held a 7-5 edge in team blocks and 9-3 in service aces.
