Bison Women Claim Team Title, Anderson Wins Individual Crown at Summit League Championships

FARGO, N.D. – Behind an individual title from junior Kelby Anderson, the North Dakota State women's cross country team captured the 2019 Summit League team championship on Saturday afternoon at Rose Creek Golf Course.
It was the first Summit League team title in cross country since 2013 for the Bison women. NDSU finished with 45 points on Saturday, defeating defending champion South Dakota (48) by three points. South Dakota State took third with 73.
Anderson led the charge, taking first place in the six-kilometer race with a time of 20:35.1 to win by a margin of 27 seconds. After placing third as a freshman and second last year as a sophomore, Anderson became NDSU's first individual champion in cross country since Erin Teschuk in 2015.
NDSU juniors Brynnan Covington (21:47.5) and Jen Dufner (21:50.0) earned top-10 finishes in eighth and ninth place, respectively. Bison freshman Kaleesa Houston placed 12th in 21:53.4 to earn Newcomer of the Championships as the top-finishing freshman.
Sophomore Mikayla Koenig sealed the team title, crossing the line in 15th place with a time of 21:57.0.
The Bison won three straight conference championships in cross country from 2011-13. They took second last season, losing to South Dakota by only one point.
Anderson's time on Saturday was a career-best, ranking fifth-fastest in school history behind only four times by Teschuk. She was named the Summit League Championships MVP by virtue of her victory.
Covington, Dufner and Houston earned second team All-Summit League honors.
