Bison Women Host Northern Illinois in Sunday Home Opener

Northern Illinois Series History
The Huskies have won both meetings between Northern Illinois and North Dakota State. This will be the first meeting in Fargo, with the previous two coming in DeKalb, Ill. The Huskies won the first meeting 67-62 on Nov. 18, 2005, while also taking the game last year 81-63 on Nov. 28. The Bison are 2-8 all-time against schools from the Mid-American Conference.

Northern Iowa used an 18-2 run in the first quarter to spoil the debut of North Dakota State head coach Jory Collins, as the Panthers defeated the Bison women's basketball team 95-63 Wednesday night at the McLeod Center.
Michelle Gaislerova led three Bison in double figures with 15 points. Freshman Ryan Cobbins had 12 points, while Sofija Zivaljevic added 10. Gaislerova scored in double figures for the 40th time in her career, while also moving into seventh in school history with 127 career 3-pointers.
After the 18-2 run over a 5:09 span late in the first quarter, UNI outscored NDSU 52-46 between the second and third quarters. The Bison used a 6-0 run late in the third quarter to cut the lead to 15, but the Panthers outscored the Bison 26-9 from that point on.
NDSU was 25-of-59 (39%) from the floor and 5-of-14 (35.7%) from downtown. It was the 112th-straight game making multiple 3-pointers for the Bison. Northern Iowa was 29-of-59 (49.2%) from the field and 10-of-17 (58.8%) from 3-point range. NDSU was 12-of-16 at the free throw line, with Northern Iowa connected on 27-of-32 (84.4%) at the charity stripe. UNI had advantages in points off turnovers (22-11), fast break points (17-0) and bench points (42-19).

North Dakota State has made at least two 3-pointers in 112-straight games dating back to a loss against Delaware on Nov. 29, 2015. Last year, The Bison averaged 5.7 3-pointers per game and hit at least seven in 12 games. NDSU hit five 3-pointers in the season-opener at Northern Iowa.
Gaislerova Named to 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team
Michelle Gaislerova was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Basketball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) last season.
Gaislerova has a 4.0 GPA and majors in Journalism. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. North Dakota State is in district six, which includes schools from Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Gaislerova was one of three selections from the Summit League, joining South Dakota's Allison Arens and Ciara Duffy.
NDSU Women's Basketball Picked Seventh In Summit League Preseason Poll
The North Dakota State Bison women's basketball team was voted seventh in the Summit League preseason poll released by the league office. South Dakota was tabbed the preseason favorite with 20 first-place votes, while South Dakota State was picked second with 13 first-place votes. Denver, picked for third, received the remaining first place vote.
Last Time Against Northern Illinois
Sophomore Michelle Gaislerova scored a career-high 30 points against Northern Illinois Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Huskies beat the North Dakota State women's basketball team 81-63 at the NIU Convocation Center.
The Bison held an early 9-8 lead with 6:30 to play in the first quarter on seven points from Gaislerova. A jumper by Myia Starks with 6:20 left in the opening frame sparked a 16-3 NIU run over a 4:27 span. The Huskies held a 26-15 lead after the first quarter.
Gaislerova cut the lead to eight with 7:52 to play in the second quarter, but a layup by Ally May started a 7-0 run that pushed the NIU lead to double digits for the remainder of the game. The Huskies led 43-28 at the break.
Northern Illinois pushed the lead to 28 points with 7:30 to play in the game on a layup by May. The Bison held the Huskies to just six points in the final seven minutes of the game while going on a 16-6 run.
The Bison were 26-of-62 (41.9%) from the field and 7-of-17 (41.2%) from 3-point range. Northern Illinois was 31-of-74 (41.9%) from the floor and 11-of-36 (30.6%) from downtown. MidcoSN to Televise 17 NDSU Women's Basketball Games in 2019-20
Midco has announced that 17 NDSU women's basketball games during the 2019-20 season will be broadcast on the Midco Sports Network. All games will either be on MidcoSN or MidcsoSN2. In addition, all 17 Midco games, along with games at Northern Iowa and Bradley, will either be available on ESPN+ or ESPN3.
Head Coach Jory Collins
Jory Collins was named the head coach of the North Dakota State women's basketball program on April 29, 2019.
Collins is the 11th head coach of the Bison. Collins just finished his first year as an assistant at the University of Kansas after spending eight seasons as the head coach at NCAA Division II Emporia State.
This past season at Kansas, Collins primarily worked with the post players. He helped recruit the No. 2 class in the Big 12 after the early signing period in November.
Collins spent 12 years at Emporia State, including the last eight as the head coach. He compiled a record of 199-56 with five straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association tournament titles (2013-17) and six straight trips to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 (2012-17). In 2017, Emporia State finished the season ranked first in the NCAA Central Region for the third time in four years.
His 2015 team won the NCAA Division II Central Region championship, advancing to the Final Four with a 29-5 record. Collins has a 33-9 career postseason record in the MIAA and NCAA tournaments, while compiling a 15-8 overall record against teams ranked in the top 10 in the nation.
Collins was named the KBCA Women's Basketball Four-Year Coach of the Year in 2015, while being named the NCAA Division II Region 7 Russell Athletic/WBCA Coach of the Year in 2014. The Hornets finished with 20 or more wins in seven of his eight seasons as a head coach.
Off the floor, the Hornets finished with the top GPA (3.72) in NCAA Division II in 2017. The 2018 squad finished fourth in the nation with a 3.71 GPA.
Prior to being the head coach at Emporia State, Collins spent four years as an assistant for the Hornets. Emporia State won back-to-back MIAA championships in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, the Hornets won the NCAA Division II national championship with a 30-5 record. Collins served as the primary recruiter that identified, evaluated, recruited and signed the class that won the national championship.
Collins earned a bachelor's degree in education from Emporia State in 2002 and a master's degree in science in school leadership from Emporia State in 2006.
