Bison Hoops Claims 4th Straight Win in Grand Forks, 74-70 over North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's basketball team won its third consecutive road game on Wednesday night at North Dakota, surging by the Fighting Hawks for a 74-70 victory.
NDSU has now won four straight games over UND in Grand Forks, dating back to the 2015-16 season. The Bison improved to 8-4 against the Fighting Hawks as Division I opponents.
Junior point guard Vinnie Shahid led the Bison with 21 points and three assists. Tyson Ward added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Deng Geu finished with 11 points and eight boards.
The first half saw eight ties and five lead changes, with neither team going ahead by more than five points. NDSU led 30-27 at halftime.
The Bison went ahead by seven early in the second half at 34-27, but UND came back to take a 36-34 lead.
NDSU trailed 56-55 with 6:30 remaining in the game before the Bison exploded for a 10-0 run to go ahead for good.
Shahid and Cameron Hunter got to the rim for back-to-back buckets, then Ward stole the ball from UND's Billy Brown as the Fighting Hawks looked to take a timeout. Ward drilled a dagger three-pointer from the corner.
Shahid capped the 10-0 run with a three-point play, and NDSU led 65-56 with 4:54 left.
NDSU shot 53 percent for the game and made 8-of-20 (40 percent) from beyond the arc. The Bison held UND without a three-pointer in the first half for the first time this season, as the Fighting Hawks matched a season-low with three treys in the game.
The Bison return home to host Denver on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
