BROOKINGS, S.D. – Junior
Tim Heikkila was the top collegiate finisher and placed third overall at the SDSU Classic on Friday evening, leading the North Dakota State men's cross country team.
On a saturated and muddy Edgebrook Golf Course, Heikkila ran 25:21.56 for the eight-kilometer course. Only post-collegiate runners Joel Reichow and Trent Lusignan, former NCAA All-Americans for South Dakota State, finished before him.
Freshman
Isaac Huber was NDSU's No. 2 runner, placing 12th overall in 26:06.56. Bison junior
Alex Bartholomay was 13th in 26:08.77, and freshman
Payton Smith took 16th in 26:13.96.
Sophomore
Keiser Freetly completed the team scoring for NDSU, taking 17th place with a time of 26:14.59.
Bison redshirt freshman
Evan Sayler finished 21st overall in 26:39.06.
South Dakota State won the team title with 25 points, and the Bison took second with 54.
NDSU will race next at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Sept. 28.
