Ben Klimpke stands in fifth place after the first day of heptathlon competition at the Jack Johnson Classic hosted by Minnesota.
Klimpke scored 2,932 points through the first four events on Friday, with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m remaining on Saturday.
Klimpke opened the day with a time of 7.15 seconds in the 60m dash. He posted marks of 22-10.50 (6.97m) in the long jump, 38-11.50 (11.87m) in the shot put, and 6-2 (1.88m) in the high jump. The shot put performance was the second-best of Klimpke's career.
The Jack Johnson Classic resumes on Saturday morning.
