Bison Women Travel to #15/20 South Dakota Thursday

The North Dakota State women's basketball team travels to #15/20 South Dakota on Thursday, Feb. 20. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. The game will be broadcast on MidcoSN2 and ESPN+. Keith Brake will have the call on Bison 1660 and 92.7 FM.
South Dakota Series History
The Bison own a 42-32 lead in the all-time series dating back to a 65-61 South Dakota victory on Jan. 15, 1977 in Vermillion. South Dakota has won the last seven meetings, while holding a 16-3 advantage in the series during the NCAA Division I era. NDSU's last victory in the series came Jan. 4, 2017, when NDSU won 83-73 in Fargo. The last win in Vermillion was a 57-50 Bison victory on Jan. 2, 2013.

Gaislerova Joins 1,000 Point Club
Junior Michelle Gaislerova scored 18 points last week against Purdue Fort Wayne, becoming the 34th member of the 1,000 point club. Needing just one point to start the game, Gaislerova scored the opening basket of the game. She is the seventh player to have done so with all years being played during the NCAA Division I era.
A New 3-Point Streak
The Bison went 0-of-14 from 3-point range against Valparaiso on Nov. 15, ending a streak of 113-straight games with at least two 3-pointers. The last time NDSU didn't hit a 3-pointer in a game was Nov. 29, 2015 against Delaware. Since the game against Valparaiso, the Bison have hit at least two in each of the last 21 games, including a season-high 14 against Waldorf.
Gaislerova Makes NCAA History
With her third made free throw against Purdue Fort Wayne, junior Michelle Gaislerova broke the NCAA Division I women's record for most consecutive free throws made with 71. Gaislerova hit one after that and currently sits at 72-straight makes. Her total is the third longest streak in all NCAA women's divisions.
Collins Earns 200th Career Victory
With NDSU's win over New Hampshire on Dec. 1, head coach Jory Collins earned his 200th career victory. In his ninth season overall as a head coach, Collins earned his first win on Nov. 13, 2010, as Emporia State beat Tulsa 68-64. His 100th career win came on Nov. 25, 2014, as Emporia State beat Henderson State 93-53.
Last Time Against South Dakota
South Dakota, ranked 21st in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25, used a 23-3 run in the first quarter to defeat North Dakota State 80-36 Jan. 16 at the Scheels Center. The loss dropped the Bison to 3-13 overall and 0-4 in the Summit League. The Coyotes improved to 16-2 overall and 5-0 in the Summit League with their fifth-straight victory.
Ryan Cobbins had a career-high 15 points to lead the Bison, while Nicole Scales added five points off the bench. Ciara Duffy led the Coyotes with a game-high 20 points. Sofija Zivaljevic led the Bison with five rebounds, while Rylee Nudell and Cobbins each had four. Zivaljevic had three assists, while Cobbins added a pair of steals.
The Bison were 11-of-44 from the field and 4-of-19 (21.1%) from 3-point range. The Coyotes, one of the top five shooting teams in the nation, were 29-of-61 (47.5%) from the floor and 10-of-24 (41.7%) from downtown. NDSU was 10-of-12 (83.3%) at the free throw line, while the Coyotes were 12-of-15. South Dakota had a 29-7 advantage in points off turnovers and 30-14 advantage in the paint.
South Dakota opened the game on a 23-3 run over the first 7:22. Late in the quarter, South Dakota led 23-6 before going on a 24-1 run over a 9:19 span to take a 47-7 lead late in the half. A 12-0 run by the Coyotes late in the third quarter gave South Dakota its largest lead at 70-16 with 2:22 left in the third quarter.

Junior Michelle Gaislerova joined the 1,000 point club and broke an NCAA Division I record in the first quarter, as the North Dakota State women's basketball team beat Purdue Fort Wayne 74-53 at the Scheels Center.
Gaislerova scored the first points of the game, as she became the 34th player in NDSU history to record 1,000 career points. She entered the game with 999 points, as she became the seventh player in the NCAA Division I era to surpass the total. With less than a minute to go in the first quarter, Gaislerova was fouled on a 3-point attempt. Her first make tied the NCAA Division I record of 70-straight makes by Lauren Prochaska of Bowling Green in 2011. The second one broke the record, while also moving her into third on the all-time NCAA record list. She currently has 72-straight makes, sitting only behind a pair of NCAA Division II totals of 118 and 78.
The Bison improved to 8-16 overall and 5-7 in the Summit League with the victory. Purdue Fort Wayne dropped to 5-20 overall and 1-11 in league play. The victory gave the Bison the season sweep after a 58-44 victory at Purdue Fort Wayne on Jan. 30.
Gaislerova finished with 18 points and six rebounds to lead the Bison. She also tied a career-high with four assists, while tying a season-high with two steals. Raquel Terrer van Gool tied a career-high with 12 points, while also grabbing six rebounds. Emily Dietz had eight points, while Rylee Nudell went over 900 career points with six on the night. Danneka Voegeli finished with six rebounds, while Nicole Scales and Cirkeline Rimdal each had three assists. Hannah Hess and Jazzy Hughes led the Mastodons with 10 points each.

NDSU opened the game on an 8-2 run and never looked back. With 5:28 to play in the first quarter, Gaislerova hit a jumper to start a 16-3 run over the remainder of the opening quarter, as NDSU led 24-7. The Bison lead never dropped into single digits for the last 33:24 of the game. NDSU had its largest lead of the game on a layup by Sofija Zivaljevic with 7:52 to play at 63-37.
NDSU Women's Basketball Picked Seventh In Summit League Preseason Poll
The North Dakota State Bison women's basketball team was voted seventh in the Summit League preseason poll released by the league office. South Dakota was tabbed the preseason favorite with 20 first-place votes, while South Dakota State was picked second with 13 first-place votes. Denver, picked for third, received the remaining first place vote.
MidcoSN to Televise 17 NDSU Women's Basketball Games in 2019-20
Midco has announced that 17 NDSU women's basketball games during the 2019-20 season will be broadcast on the Midco Sports Network. All games will either be on MidcoSN or MidcsoSN2. In addition, all 17 Midco games, along with games at Northern Iowa and Bradley, will either be available on ESPN+ or ESPN3.
Bison Sign Three on National Signing Day
NDSU will add a pair of high school players, while also getting a junior college transfer, head coach Jory Collins announced on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Abigail Schulte, a 5-10 guard from Maple Grove, Minn., Kylie Strop, a 5-7 guard from River Falls, Wis. and Reneya Hopkins, a 5-7 junior college transfer from Redlands Community College have all signed during the first signing day for Collins.
An all-conference junior college performer, Hopkins averaged 14.4 points, 5.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks during her freshman year at RCC. An all-state selection as a junior, Schulte averaged 12.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists as a junior. Strop is the all-time leader in scoring and steals at River Falls High School, averaging 19.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.0 steals as a junior.

- Cobbins scored in double figures for the seventh-straight game with 12 points. Junior Emily Dietz went over 600 points for her career.
- Western Illinois outscored NDSU 26-15 in the fourth quarter, as the Leathernecks defeated the Bison 86-79.
- Gaislerova led the Bison with 20 points, her 12th career game with 20 or more points. Cobbins added 14 points, her sixth-straight game in double figures.
- North Dakota State outscored Purdue Fort Wayne 21-9 in the fourth quarter, as the Bison beat the Mastodons 58-44.

- The Coyotes have put together one of the best seasons in Summit League history, sitting at 24-2 overall and 13-0 in league play. South Dakota is ranked 15th in the USA Today/WBCA Poll and 20th in the Associated Press Poll.
- South Dakota rank fourth in the nation in scoring margin at 25.3, while having the eighth best scoring offense in the country at 81.9. The Coyotes also rank 26th in scoring defense, allowing just 56.6 points per game.
- The Coyotes are second in the nation in 3-point percentage at 39.4, while also ranking fourth in the country in field goal percentage at 48.5.
- South Dakota ranks seventh in the nation with a 92.3 winning percentage. The only two teams to beat South Dakota are South Carolina (25-1) and Missouri State (21-3).
- Ciara Duffy ranks 18th in the nation with 135 assists and 27th with 5.2 per game, while leading the Summit League in both categories. Duffy also ranks 80th in the country with 16.9 points per game, which is third in the league.
