VERMILLION, S.D. – The North Dakota State women's soccer team closed a Summit League road trip with a 5-0 loss to the University of South Dakota on Sunday at the First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.
South Dakota's (9-3-2, 4-2-0 Summit) Jordan Centineo scored a hat trick to lead the way for the Coyotes, handing the Bison (2-9-1, 2-3-0 Summit) back-to-back losses in league play for the first time this season.
Centineo opened the scoring in the 31st minute and South Dakota would carry a 1-0 lead into the break, despite the Bison having two shots on goal to just one for the hosts in the opening 45 minutes.
The start of the second half saw an immediate surge for the Coyotes, who would score twice in the first four minutes to take a commanding lead. Centineo scored her second goal of the game in the 47th minute and Shaylee Gailus scored less than 90 seconds later.
Cenineo would complete a hat trick in the 64th minute. The final goal came by way of an own goal in the 88th minute as a shot headed wide deflected off of a Bison defender and into the net.
The Bison trailed in shots 11-7, including 7-3 in shots on goal. South Dakota also had the edge in corner kicks 7-2.
Sofia Howe finished with two saves in the game. Olivia Lovick, Olivia Watson and Jess Hanley each had a shot on goal.
After missing all of last season with an injury, Reagan Klose made her first collegiate appearance on Sunday, coming off the bench in the second half, playing 12 minutes. Taylore Simmons and Aly Cole also made their first appearances of the season.
The Bison will return to Dacotah Field on Thursday, October 22, taking on Omaha in the first of two games in Fargo next week to end the home portion of the 2021 schedule. NDSU is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff against the Mavs.
