NDSU Volleyball Comes Up Short at Oral Roberts, 3-1

TULSA, Okla.   –  The North Dakota State volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Oral Roberts on Thursday night.

With the loss, NDSU drops to 9-13 (3-7 Summit), while Oral Roberts improves to 13-5 (7-2 Summit) on the season.

Ali Hinze logged her fourth straight double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. Syra Tanchin also reached double figures in kills with 14, while Taylor Quan contributed a team-best 13 digs. Raegen Reilly passed out a team-best 41 assists and Alexandria Hicks rounded out the top performers with a season-high seven total blocks.

As a team, NDSU posted a season-best 10.5 total blocks with six different players contributing at least one block assist.

Both teams began the contest trading points until the Golden Eagles assembled a 6-0 run to open up a 18-11 lead. NDSU then settled in putting together four unanswered points capped off by a block from Michelle Glover and Hicks to cut the deficit to down to four, 22-18. However, the Bison couldn't complete the late comeback and dropped the set, 25-20.

ORU carried momentum over into the second frame opening up a 15-10 edge. NDSU battled back to lock the set, 16-16, after Ava Schmoll delivered a service ace. The two teams then exchanged points until the Bison closed the frame on a 3-0 run to win the set, 26-24.

NDSU fought its way back in the third stanza after rattling off four straight points to make the score, 13-13, following a Quan service ace. The Golden Eagles answered back building four-point edge, 19-15, and forced a Bison timeout. NDSU went on to drop the set, 25-18.

The Golden Eagles began the fourth set doubling up the Bison, 8-4. NDSU made one final surge with a 4-1 run to pull within four, 14-10, after Kirstin Tidd notched a kill. The Golden Eagles held off the Bison the rest of the way and won the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.

NDSU will wrap up the weekend at Kansas City (15-6, 6-3 Summit) on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
