KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The North Dakota State volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, NDSU falls to 9-14 (3-8 Summit), while Kansas City improves to 17-6 (8-3 Summit) on the season.
Raegen Reilly contributed her fourth double-double of the season with a team-high 34 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Syra Tanchin connected on a match-high 13 kills, while
Ali Hinze poured in 10 kills with nine digs.
Taylor Quan also hit double figures in digs with match-best 17 to round out the top performers.
The Bison snatched an early lead in the opening set, 11-9, following an attack error. NDSU continued to apply pressure increasing their lead to 19-14 following three straight points to force a Kansas City timeout. However, the Roos came back and closed the frame on a 4-0 run to take the win, 25-22. Quan led all players with nine digs in the set.
Both teams exchanged points in a tight second stanza to find themselves deadlocked, 12-12. The Roos then took advantage of a 6-1 run to capture the lead, 18-13. Kansas City held off NDSU the rest of the way to take the set, 25-20.
The Roos carried the momentum over into the third set doubling up the Bison, 10-5. Kansas City continued to surge stretching their lead up 15-8 by the midway point. The Bison made one final push assembling a 4-0 run to pull within two, 23-21. Kansas City once again went on to withstand the NDSU comeback and won the frame, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
NDSU will return to Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse on Thursday hosting St. Thomas (2-18, 1-9 Summit). First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
