Fast Start Propels NDSU Volleyball Past St. Thomas, 3-0

FARGO, N.D.   –  The North Dakota State volleyball team cruised past St. Thomas, 3-0, on Thursday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

With the win, NDSU (10-14, 4-8 Summit) completes the season sweep of St. Thomas (2-20, 1-11 Summit) and also moves to 4-0 in the all-time series.

Maggie Steffen tallied a season-high nine kills with seven digs, while Ali Hinze just missed a double-double with nine kills and nine digs. Alexis Boling filled her stat line with nine kills, season-best five total blocks and one service ace. Raegen Reilly closed out the top performers with a team-high 24 assists with seven digs.

The Bison sprinted out to a 9-2 lead after Kaylee Hanger connected on an ace to force a St. Thomas timeout. NDSU continued to apply pressure increasing its lead into double digits, 18-7, following a kill from Hinze. The Bison then closed out the frame, 25-15. Hinze led all players with four kills in the set.

NDSU continued to roll into the second set opening up an 11-4 edge after an ace from Hinze. The Bison extended their lead up to 10, 19-9, following a kill from Boling. NDSU didn't look back and won the frame, 25-22.

The Bison began the third stanza building a 13-9 advantage after a kill from Steffen. The Tommies then pushed back with a 3-0 run to cut the deficit down to one, 13-12. NDSU responded with a 4-0 run of its own to extend its edge back up to six, 21-15, following a kill from Steffen and Kirstin Tidd. The Bison held off the Tommies the rest of the way, 25-22, and completed the sweep, 3-0.

NDSU will continue its homestand hosting Western Illinois (3-19, 2-9 Summit) on Saturday at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
