DENVER, Colo. – The North Dakota State men's golf team rallied on the final day of the 2021 Paintbrush Invitational, climbing four spots to finish fourth overall in the event hosted by the University of Denver at the Colorado Golf Club.
After a suspended round two on Monday night, the Bison sat eighth overall. NDSU climbed to sixth at the conclusion of round two and then climbed two more spots to take fourth overall following the third and final round. The Bison carded the second-best round of the day to move up the leaderboard.
Nate Adams and
Jack Johnson were a big part of the final push, as they climbed from 36
th overall after Monday to finish in ties for fourth and ninth, respectively.
Adams would start the day with a bogey and four pars, but then made a turn with an eagle at the par-5 15
th. Following three pars, Adams would birdie three of the next five holes before a couple bogeys and a double bogey saw Adams finish the day at even par, which was tied for the best round of the day.
Johnson would start with a bogey and a double bogey, but then settled in with two birdies and two pars over the next four holes. He would go on to shoot even par the rest of the way with one more birdie, finishing the day at +1 with a 73, tied for the fourth best round in the 81-golfer field.
Gavin Cronkhite would also move up the leaderboards on the final day, as he climbed 11 spots to finish in a tie for 27
th overall. Cronkhite would finish the day with three birdies and also carded an eagle on the par-5 7
th hole to highlight his round. He would finish with a 76 on the day.
With the fourth-place finish, the Bison have finished in the top five in all three tournaments to start the season and continued a run that extends to six tournaments dating back to the spring of 2021.
The Bison are scheduled to return to action on October 24-26 at the Outer Banks of North Carolina with the Old Dominion University hosted Kilmarlic Tournament held at Kilmarlic Golf Club at Powells Point, N.C.
