Bison Men Lead After Opening Day of Golfweek Spring Invitational

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – The North Dakota State men's golf team turned in two of the best rounds in school history Monday, as the Bison have the lead after the opening day of the Golfweek Spring Invitational. NDSU's opening round 279 is tied for the sixth best in school history, while the 277 in the second round is tied for the third best in school history.
The Bison have four golfers scoring in the top 20 and all golfers in the top 25 after the first two rounds of play. NDSU's 556 is eight strokes ahead of Campbell and Delaware. Campbell's Pontus Nyholm is in the individual lead with a 135.
Freshman Jack Johnson is tied for second with a 138, shooting a 70 in the first round and 68 in the second. Johnson recorded 11 birdies, including seven of them in the second round. Sophomore Nate Deziel shot a 141, as he is tied for ninth. Deziel shot a 70 in the first round followed by a 71 in the second round.
Freshman Brock Winter is tied for 13th with a 142. Winter shot a 66 in the first round and 76 in the second round. Winter recorded six birdies and no bogeys in the first round. Freshman Nate Adams is tied for 19th with a 143. Adams shot a 77 in the first round and 66 in the second round. The 66 for Adams and Winter is tied for the sixth best 18-hole score in school history and a career-low for Adams. Rounding out the lineup for the Bison is junior Lucas Johnson, who is tied for 25th with a 145. Johnson shot a 73 and a 72, as he recorded six birdies on the day.
The Bison lead the field with 42 birdies and two eagles after two rounds. Deziel and Adams both recorded an eagle.
The third, and final round, is scheduled to begin at 7:25 a.m. (Central) Tuesday at True Blue Golf Club.
